In 1986, WNDA established the Ann Schmitter Memorial Sportswoman of The Year Award in the memory of one of the first ladies the game of duckpins has ever known Ann Schmitter.

The first winner of the award was Wilda Guerrette of Stratford, CT.  Originally, this award was given at the Connecticut tour stop since Ann was from Connect.  In the last several years with the tour scheduling, this award has been given out to the WNDA members who best exemplify the qualities of good sportswoman ship, dedication and unselfish devotion to the game of duckpins and to their bowlers.
